Reporting to the Senior Manager, Procurement Operations Canada, the Sr. Advisor, Procurement, will be responsible for purchasing services, creating site-level Master Service Agreements (MSAs), leading and executing value-creation initiatives, and managing the full lifecycle of Maintenance and Project Contracts from creation to closeout. You will ensure alignment with Nutrien’s other sites, category management strategies, and capital procurement objectives by collaborating across the business and site-based teams to execute value initiatives and strategic contracting. Your expertise will support the site-based procurement team, maintenance and operations teams, and capital project execution, driving value for Nutrien operations while contributing to successful procurement outcomes. 

 

This position is based at the Redwater, AB, Nutrien site and is expected to work Monday through Friday, or Monday through Thursday on a 4-day, 10-hour schedule, totaling 40 hours per week.  There are multiple schedule options for the right candidate.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Managing the on-site services process through managing spend, suppliers, and purchasing services, including leading the RFx processes, reviewing scopes of work, establishing evaluation criteria, commercial compensation structures, bid evaluations, negotiations, ISN compliance, governance compliance, and supporting MSA/PO execution through to closeout activities. 
  • MSA creation: Proactively develop and execute procurement strategies, providing expert advice and obtaining stakeholder buy-in and support for current and the development of future Master Service Agreements while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. Proficient in developing the scope of work, market intelligence, gathering business needs, RFx process, evaluations, commercial and legal negotiations and contract execution.
  • Engagement with Capital, Category Management and site stakeholders to support MSA development/negotiations to ensure site-level agreements/strategies are aligned with overarching strategy and are developed to meet business needs.
  • Supporting the management of the site's operational procurement activities, including stakeholder engagement and ensuring maintenance/operations needs and priorities are met with a high customer service mindset.
  • Utilizing your strong problem-solving and analytical skills, develop and implement practical sourcing and stakeholder engagement strategies.  Align strategies with One Nutrien mindset, category management panels and Capital program demand forecasts, work scope requirements, potential opportunities and risks, supplier and industry dynamics, and other business drivers.
  • Will play a key role in expanding the automation of purchasing materials across the Alberta sites through the identification and negotiation of new Outline Agreements in support of transaction efficiency.
  • Continuous Improvement (CI) through collaboration with internal clients and the procurement team to understand site processes, needs, goals, objectives, priorities, challenges, and opportunities, and develop CI initiatives to make impactful improvements for operations and the procurement team.
  • Develop tailored procurement strategies and contract execution plans in support of new MSA creation for site operations or capital projects.
  • Responsible for drafting contract exhibits and participating in the negotiation of terms and conditions.   
  • Manage day-to-day contract-related requests, including supporting contractors' onboarding requirements, change management activities, and claims management. 
  • Prepare contract strategy documents, recommendations to award, and contract executive summaries. 

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Business, supply-chain, Engineering, Law, or a related discipline.  A combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered. 
  • Minimum 6 years relevant experience in strategic sourcing, contract management, Supply Chain Management, project management, engineering, or a related field. 
  • Certifications in related disciplines such as procurement (e.g., SCMP/CPSM) are considered an asset. 
  • Targeted experience in competitive sourcing, supplier negotiations, contract execution, supplier relationship management, spend analytics, and supplier risk management will be considered a strong asset. 
  • Experience with contract management/administration, including invoice validation, contract interpretation, and claims management, will be considered an asset.  
  • A proactive, high-energy mindset with the ability to adapt in a dynamic work environment, effectively engaging with both internal customers and external suppliers. 
  • Proficiency in legal and commercial contract negotiations. 
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong commercial and business acumen. 
  • Solid technical and analytical skills. 
  • Proven track record in leading engagements or problem-solving with experience coordinating cross-functional teams. 
  • Practical experience with enterprise asset management systems (SAP / Oracle) and spend management tools (Ariba). 
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and ability to quickly adapt to new technologies.
