The Senior Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer is accountable for leading the execution of capital projects, providing advanced technical expertise and project leadership in the design, development, and optimization of electrical systems and instrumentation for major industrial initiatives. This role ensures successful project delivery from preliminary engineering through commissioning, with a focus on safety, compliance, budget control, and stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate for this role will be a proven leader with expertise in complex projects, instrumentation, hazardous area classifications, and power distribution systems. Skilled in strategic thinking, problem-solving, and influencing cross-functional teams, with strong project management knowledge and excellent communication skills.
What You'll Do:

- Lead the engineering design, and execution of large-scale capital projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and operational priorities.
- Oversee all phases of project delivery, including scope development, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
- Lead multi-disciplinary project teams and ensure adherence to Nutrien Project Management Processes.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources to achieve cost-effective and timely outcomes.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, contractors, and vendors to deliver high-quality solutions and resolve project challenges.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for electrical systems, instrumentation, and control strategies, ensuring technical excellence throughout project execution.
- Identify and implement advanced technologies to improve system performance, reliability, and safety.
- Ensure all capital projects adhere to applicable codes (CSA, NEC, IEC), safety standards, and corporate policies.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation plans for electrical and instrumentation systems.
- Communicate project status, risks, and opportunities to senior management and stakeholders.
- Foster strong relationships with internal and external partners to support project success.
- Provide guidance and technical training to junior engineers and technicians.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience as an electrical and instrumentation engineer within industrial environments (oil & gas, petrochemical, or manufacturing preferred).
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
- Expertise in electrical design software and advanced control systems (Honeywell PLC, Modicon DCS).
- F&G alarm systems, control and relay logic, actuators, PLC hardware and programming, DCS hardware, OT network, control systems interfaces and HVAC design and control.
- Excellent knowledge of the standards/codes: CEC, NFPA, IEEE, NEC and IEC/ISA.
