What you will do:
- Supervise personnel within their area of responsibility to ensure that safe and productive work is performed
- Assign/schedule work and perform regular follow-up on work activities so the team is working in an efficient and effective manner
- Provide safety leadership for the metallurgical department. Ensure that safe work habits are enforced and instruct safe methods of doing work. Perform required compliance checks, key procedure audits, area inspections, and job observations. Attend, line out, and safety meetings as required
- Provide strong process engineering leadership for the team of engineers through regular training and coaching. Support and utilize Nutrien’s management of change process to recommend the alteration or modification to existing systems, provide technical advice to the team for improving maintenance and operating efficiency
- Provide weekend supervisory coverage as required, to respond to unplanned equipment repairs and other emergency problems
- Direct and motivate the team to safely maximize refinery production and product recovery, while maintaining a high standard of product quality
- Research, evaluate and recommend new and innovative technologies for process improvement and expansion at Rocanville
- Monitor the product quality programs and administer revisions and evaluations as required to maintain the high standard of product quality control
- Supervise the calculation and reporting of daily, monthly and annual metallurgical balances
- Forecast by historical record and future estimates, annual operating budget for their department
- Assist with the prioritization of capital spend while meeting operating and business objectives.
- Promote a high level of trust, respect, and inclusion within the department
- Coordinate daily with cross-functional teams in both operations and maintenance departments to optimize asset performance and reliability
What you will bring:
- Chemical Engineering Degree or equivalent education/extensive experience in mineral processing
- Strong commitment to safety with knowledge of OH&S regulations and the ability to ensure compliance with such regulations
- Professional Engineering designation
- 5+ years of progressive engineering experience. Experience in potash will be an asset
- 3+ years of direct supervisory experience preferred
- Excellent technical knowledge of process engineering best practices
- Strong commitment to operational excellence and the understanding of mill operations, processes and equipment
- Strong leadership skills to help bring accountability to your team by creating a supportive, engaging, collaborative and motivating work environment
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
