Reporting to the Mine General Superintendent, the Chief Mine Engineer is accountable for the mine engineering support for an extensive, high production underground Potash mine with an overall goal of long-term efficiency. The Chief Mine Engineer leads the team that provides a safe work environment for the underground work force and applicable departments.
What you will do:
- Lead the Mine Engineering Department in Mine planning, mine survey, rock mechanics, geology, ventilation, and production planning activities.
- Preparation of mining plans (long range and annual) to mine production targets while implementing safe and cost-effective changes.
- Assists with the preparation of mine operating and capital budgets and cost breakdowns.
- Make underground infrastructure and equipment design, evaluation, and purchase recommendations.
- Geotechnical monitoring, control, and remediation
- Work closely with the mine operations, maintenance, construction, and shaft departments to ensure a long-term cost-efficient operation.
- Prepare scheduled and ad hoc reporting, plans and drawings for the area of responsibility for internal and external stakeholders.
- Professionally carry out duties following Nutrien safety principles and priorities
- Direct the area of responsibility to achieve the highest standards in all aspects, including safety, employee relations, production, cost, and effective utilization of the resources available.
- Direct, adjust and cease work activities to ensure employees are performing safe and productive work
- Actively be part of, promote and engage in continuous improvement by recommending alterations or modifications to existing systems, providing technical advice to personnel for improving maintenance and operating reliability and efficiency while supporting the applicable departments.
- Support coordination and supervision of service provider activities as required.
- Be available for after-hours emergencies and support.
What you will bring:
- Relevant Engineering degree in mining, geological or a related discipline required
- Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer or Geoscientist in Saskatchewan required
- 5+ years of progressively responsible engineering experience in an underground environment required
- Excellent technical knowledge of mining methods and ground control strategies
- Experience in Potash mining in Saskatchewan and experience with friction hoists will be an asset.
- Demonstrated leadership skills including strong team building and communication skills with other team members, departments, and direct reports.
- Demonstrated strengths in organizational, planning, and resourcing skills.
- Ability to handle a large and varied workload, prioritizing work tasks with minimal supervision
- Strong commitment to safety with knowledge of OH&S, Mine, Environmental and other jurisdictional regulations
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft applications.
