Production

  • Collaboratively manage underground mine production and construction activities in concert with the maintenance department to minimize unscheduled downtime and ensure equipment access during planned maintenance work.
  • Integrate engineering, planning, and operational aspects of the work to meet (or exceed) production targets while keeping in full compliance with safety, health & environment standards and practices, budgets, and labor parameters.
  • Manage, track and report on costs (daily, weekly, and monthly).
  • Administer safety programs.
  • Perform compliance checks, key-procedure audits, area inspections, and job observations.
  • Assign shifts, establish work schedules and monitor work to ensure crews are working effectively and efficiently.

 

Operations Planning

  • Contribute to the development of short-, medium-, and long-range plans, with a focus on borer sequencing and utilization.
  • Work with engineers to develop detailed work plans.
  • Manage service providers and schedule equipment delivery.
  • Manage budgets and make appropriate adjustments to production and construction activities for improved productivity.

 

Technology

  • Upgrade the mine operations department (leveraging tools and methodologies) as technological advancements are made in mine engineering planning tools and mining methods.

 

Employee Relations and Performance Management

  • Hire and train General Foreperson, Mine Captains, and First Line Production and Construction Supervisors.
  • Train personnel on safe work practices and supervise to ensure practices are followed.
  • Establish accurate work standards, evaluations, and appraisal systems.
  • Establish employee training programs – introducing new concepts, systems, and equipment – to ensure top performance and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance reviews of mine operations personnel.
  • Provide coaching/mentoring to General Foreperson and others, fostering solid leadership development.
  • Encourage and maintain two-way communication with direct reports for increased employee engagement.
  • Participate in company off-site activities in support of employees (e.g. Fire Fighters’ Rodeo, Provincial Emergency Response Competition, Service and Safety Awards).

 

What you will bring:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Mining or Geological Engineering (other combinations of experience and education will be considered).
  • 10+ years of related senior mine-management experience with demonstrated and consistent career progression.
  • 5+ years of experience in an operation management position.
  • Experience within a large mining operation site (open pit, surface or underground).
  • A track record of safety.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mining and an understanding of mining operations as a whole.
  • Proven ability to lead for maximum results.
  • Knowledge of technological advancements in the mining sector.
  • Proven leadership and effective interpersonal skills, with a keen ability to promote and maintain a healthy/positive work environment.
  • The character traits of an influential leader – i.e. integrity with the ability to listen, speak thoughtfully and act deliberately, willing to learn, have high expectations of themselves and inspire others to do the same.
