What You'll Do:

- Develop and execute the corporate nitric acid and ammonium nitrate technology strategy to improve safety, reliability, environmental performance, energy efficiency, and production across all nitric acid facilities
- Serve as the corporate subject matter expert for nitric acid and nitrate technologies, providing technical leadership and support to operating facilities
- Support the safe and reliable operation of Nutrien’s nitric acid and downstream nitrate production assets through process optimization, troubleshooting, and technical coaching
- Provide technical oversight and governance for major capital projects, including technology selection, FEED reviews, process design reviews, HAZOP participation, commissioning, and startup activities
- Lead process optimization efforts focused on reducing energy consumption, improving catalyst performance, increasing production rates, reducing emissions, and lowering operating costs
- Develop and maintain corporate engineering standards, process design criteria, operating envelopes, and best-practice documentation for nitric acid operations
- Support site personnel in identifying and implementing process improvements, debottlenecking opportunities, and reliability improvement initiatives
- Facilitate root cause investigations for significant process upsets, reliability events, environmental excursions, and process safety incidents
- Support Process Safety Management programs and participate in PHAs, HAZOPs, Layers of Protection Analysis, and Management of Change activities
- Drive reduction of NOx and N2O emissions while supporting corporate sustainability and decarbonization objectives
- Evaluate emerging technologies and new process configurations that improve economics, reduce emissions, and enhance long-term competitiveness
- Develop systems to share technical knowledge, lessons learned, operational best practices, and incident learnings across all nitric acid facilities
- Work closely with reliability, process control, inspection, maintenance, environmental, and operations teams to identify opportunities for performance improvement
- Provide technical leadership during major turnarounds, plant assessments, and operational excellence reviews
- Serve as Nutrien’s primary technical interface with technology licensors, engineering contractors, catalyst suppliers, and equipment manufacturers
- Monitor industry trends, benchmark performance against competing facilities, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
- Support acquisition evaluations, due diligence activities, and strategic growth opportunities involving nitric acid, nitrates, and related technologies
What You'll Bring:

- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering required
- 15+ years of experience in nitric acid, nitrate, fertilizer, ammonia, or related chemical process industries
- Demonstrated technical expertise in nitric acid process technology, catalyst systems, emissions control, and process optimization
- Experience supporting multiple manufacturing facilities or operating within a corporate engineering, technology, or operations support organization
- Experience leading major capital projects from concept development through startup
- Strong understanding of Process Safety Management, risk management, HAZOP facilitation, and incident investigation
- Experience working with engineering contractors, technology licensors, and equipment suppliers
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause failure analysis skills
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated ability to drive change and implement best practices across multiple sites
- Experience utilizing advanced process monitoring, digital tools, and data analytics platforms is preferred
- Prior leadership experience within fertilizer, industrial gas, explosives, mining, or petrochemical industries is preferred

Compensation & Benefits:Â

The salary range for this role, in Deerfield location, is between $157,700 - $189,240. While we provide this range as general guidance, several factors are taken into consideration when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, candidate skill set, experience and training, licensure and certifications, work location, and other business and organizational needs. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan and long-term incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.  Details will be discussed through the application process.Â
