Advisor, Insurance and Risk Management

This role is accepting candidates at both the Advisor and Sr Advisor level. Qualified applicants will be evaluated for the level that aligns most closely with their education, experience, and qualifications. 

 

Reports to the Director, Global Insurance and Risk Management.
 

What you will do:
 

  • Play an active role in assisting and providing input with the administration, development, analysis and management of the Corporation's insurance programs.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to the Operating Segments by offering technical expertise and advice on all day to day insurance matters including: advice concerning operation insurance requirements, risk analysis of third-party contracts, analysis, and interpretation of insurance policy wordings.
  • Work with other departments to coordinate interdepartmental activities in order to ensure that the Insurance group meets the SBU's expectations.
  • Resolve problems as needed to ensure that customers receive prompt and efficient service.
  • Collect underwriting information as required, and participate fully in the final decisions concerning insurance purchase.
  • Review insurance policies to ensure accuracy and completeness of the coverage and policy documents and provide wording improvement recommendations.
  • Technical analysis required to support major insurance claims.
  • Coordinate the preparation of major claims submissions and negotiate claims payments with insurers in order to maximize recoveries.
  • Liaise extensively with adjusters and internal staff on a variety of claim issues.
  • Provide assistance and advice to internal staff with respect to the contractual transfer of risk by analyzing and providing appropriate contract language for indemnification, risk transfer and insurance clauses for a variety of contracts, agreements, leases and other contracts as required.
  • Assist in providing insurance advise, guidance and due diligence for business development projects.
  • Interact with internal and external stakeholders to secure the annual placement of coverage.
  • Collaborate with external brokers and insurers in the development, analysis, placement, monitoring and renewal of the Corporations insurance policies and risk transfer strategies.
  • Act as support in preparing reports and presentations to various senior committees.
  • Service a broad client base of Nutrien administrators, managers, and staff and the outside community at large and also interact regularly with brokers, adjuster and insurers.
  • Assist with Business Continuity Planning.
  • Support on special projects - e.g. M&A due diligence, project specific risk assessments as required.
     

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree in business administration, Accounting, Economics, Finance, Risk Management or equivalent.
  • 5 years of experience in a corporate finance environment or equivalent with relevant experience in insurance or risk management industry.
  • Enrollment in or completion of a program in one of the following professional industry designations will be a definite asset: CRM, FRM, CIP and FCIP.
  • Capability to manage multiple competing priorities and keen to work in a dynamic, global and cross-functional environment.
  • Exposure to legal principles of tort and contract law would also be an asset as well as significant knowledge of various insurance markets.
  • Previous claims experience is an asset.
  • Risk Control and site audit experience are an asset.
  • Above average PC skills in a Windows environment, Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, PowerBI, Oracle and SAP are an asset.
  • Previous experience working with risk management / claims database system (ie: Riskonnect) an asset

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.  Details will be discussed through the application process.
