Reporting to the Vice President, HRBP, NPKC, the Director, Labor Relations is responsible for developing and executing the global labor relations strategy for the organization. This role oversees the labor relations function across multiple regions and countries, ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations, managing collective bargaining processes, resolving labor disputes, and fostering positive labor-management relations.
What you will do:
• Develop and implement labor relations strategies across the global organization that complies with the legal and regulatory frameworks
• Partner with senior management to ensure the organization’s labor relations policies and practices are aligned with business objectives and comply with all applicable laws and regulations in the jurisdictions in which we operate
• Act as Nutrien Lead spokesperson in collective bargaining and ongoing negotiation of Letters of Understanding at all unionized sites, including preparation of proposals in conjunction with site administration, and approval of bargaining mandate in conjunction with Business Unit senior administration
• Oversee the overall collective bargaining strategy in preparation for and during all collective bargaining including coordination with HR Business Partners, COEs and HRSC functions mainly payroll, compensation and benefits
• Foster strong labor relations by developing positive working relationships with labor union leaders. This is done within a team framework with the HR Business Partners
• Liaise with the Integrity Department to provide direct investigations support as well as coordinate and support HR Business Partners in the delivery of on-time, quality investigations
• Act as a key subject matter expert, mentor and provide guidance to HR Business Partners and is responsible for coordination of our labor relations decisions regarding discipline, contract interpretation, policy interpretation and grievance resolutions
• Responsible for the development and coordination of delivery of education on Nutrien’s labor relations strategy, key labor and employee relations topics including relevant legislation to HR Business Partners and business leaders
• Participate in and coordinate all matters pertaining to labor relations up to and including grievance arbitrations and hearings regarding human rights, labor standards, occupational health and other employment-related matters
• Seek legal points of views on labor matters as needed, in conjunction, Legal department and/or outside legal counsel
• Lead and guide special projects regarding unionized team such as large-scale restructuring, down-sizing, lay-offs, etc.
• Provide labor relations summaries to ELT and the board as needed and for annual reporting
• Guide development of various HR policies and procedures, in particular Attendance Management and Drug and Alcohol Policies
• Conduct due diligence and provide labor relations advice on mergers and acquisitions

• Candidate will be required to travel
What you will bring:
• 15+ years of related experience in human resources with a majority in labor relations
• 5+ years progressive management and leadership experience
• Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business, or applicable discipline or equivalent work experience
• Professional designation in Human Resources, Labor Relations, or similar discipline preferred
• Extensive experience in unionized environments, grievance administration and collective bargaining
• Excellent communication and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively among across a variety of teams
• Thorough mentoring and coaching experience to business clients and peers with diverse levels of expertise
• Demonstrated proficiency in conflict resolution and relationship developing skills
• Excellent judgment and a strategic mindset
