The Enterprise Architect - Applications & ERP defines and maintains Nutrien’s enterprise application and ERP architecture direction. The role creates a transparent view of the application portfolio, shapes current-state, target-state and transition architectures, guides application rationalization and lifecycle decisions, and defines enterprise integration and application-development architecture standards.

The role provides enterprise-level direction and architecture assurance. It works through the EA COE and established governance forums to translate business capability priorities into coherent application and ERP roadmaps that reduce duplication, technical debt, integration complexity, lifecycle risk and avoidable cost.

What You'll Do:

Strategic accountabilities

• Own the multi-year ERP roadmap and keep it current with technology and macro-industry trends perspective
• Maintain the enterprise application portfolio architecture, including current state, target state, transition states, lifecycle positions, strategic role, dependencies and rationalization opportunities
• Manage the enterprise ERP target-state architecture and transition options across different ERP environments, collaborating with the ERP COE and business-aligned Enterprise Architects
• Lead application portfolio assessments using functional fit, technical fit, lifecycle risk, duplication, integration complexity, strategic alignment and validated cost inputs
• Maintain an enterprise application rationalization roadmap that identifies consolidation, retirement, modernization, replacement and reuse priorities
• Define and govern enterprise integration architecture direction, principles and reference patterns across APIs, events, middleware, batch/file integration and data movement
• Define and maintain enterprise application-development architecture standards and guardrails, including clean core/extensibility, modularity, interoperability, resilience, observability, secure-development alignment and CI/CD architecture expectations
• Provide buy, build, reuse and retire guidance and architecture-fit criteria for major application and ERP investments
• Connect application and ERP recommendations to business capabilities, outcomes, lifecycle risk, technical debt and total-cost implications
• Collaborate with other enterprise architects in the team in bridging application and technology views
• Collaborate with different COEs and IT delivery teams on technology roadmaps and directions

Tactical architecture enablement and assurance

• Assess material initiatives for alignment with target-state application architecture, approved standards and enterprise reuse opportunities
• Provide reusable reference architectures, decision criteria and patterns to Solution Architects, ERP teams and delivery organizations
• Identify duplicate capabilities, unsupported technology, hidden licensing exposure, integration debt and roadmap conflicts before material commitments are made
• Prepare application-domain architecture point of view (PoV), exception recommendations and remediation conditions for the Architecture Review Board or delegated design authority
• Contribute architecture-fit criteria to RFI/RFP evaluations, major renewals and modernization decisions; Procurement and accountable owners retain sourcing and commercial authority
• Maintain application portfolio, standards, decisions and exception information in the designated EA repository with support from the EA Business Analyst and accountable data owners
• Facilitate cross-domain architecture working sessions and present options, dependencies, risks and trade-offs to senior stakeholders

What You'll Bring:

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
• 15+ years of progressive experience in enterprise, application or solution architecture in complex, heterogeneous organizations, including significant enterprise application portfolio or ERP architecture responsibility
• Demonstrated experience shaping current-state, target-state and transition architectures for ERP-centric application landscapes
• Demonstrated application portfolio assessment, rationalization, lifecycle management and roadmap experience
• Deep knowledge of SAP S/4HANA and/or SAP ECC landscapes; familiarity with Oracle, mainframe or custom ERP environments is an asset
• Strong enterprise integration architecture knowledge across APIs, event-driven integration, middleware, batch/file integration and data movement
• Experience defining and governing enterprise application-development architecture standards, including clean-core/extensibility and CI/CD architecture guardrails
• Experience with architecture governance, conformance assessment, decision records and exception management
• Ability to connect application and ERP decisions to business capability, lifecycle risk, technical debt, integration complexity and cost implications
• Exceptional written and verbal communication, with the ability to frame options and influence senior business and IT stakeholders without direct authority
• Experience in estimation TCO for an application and value realization after delivery
• Great communication and visual storytelling skills
• Ability and desire to collaborate, facilitate and constructively challenge ideas
• Strong curiosity and learning agility about business and technology
• Willingness to learn, work and deliver across enterprise teams outside of your domain

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with multi-ERP rationalization, legacy/mainframe modernization, two-tier ERP or M&A integration
• Experience with EA repository and portfolio tools
• Familiarity with TOGAF, other Enterprise Architecture Framework or comparable practical architecture methods
• TOGAF, or equivalent architecture certification
• Experience in agriculture, mining, chemicals, manufacturing, retail, distribution or another complex asset-intensive enterprise
• Advisory or consulting experience in enterprise application strategy or modernization
