The Human Resources Solution Center supports over 30,000 employees globally in areas related to benefits and pension administration, payroll and time keeping, and record keeping and reporting. 

 

As a Payroll System Manager, you are not just managing systems—you are leading transformation at the heart of how we pay and support our people. This role is a critical change agent, responsible for modernizing and optimizing payroll operations to ensure every employee is paid accurately, on time, and with confidence.

 

You will champion the evolution of our payroll systems, leveraging technology to streamline processes, enhance data integrity, and unlock automation opportunities. Working cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and IT, you’ll be at the forefront of integrating new tools, driving compliance, and ensuring our systems are future-ready.

 

This is a role for a strategic thinker and systems innovator—someone who thrives on solving complex challenges, embraces continuous improvement, and is passionate about delivering a seamless, secure, and scalable payroll experience. You’ll also play a key role in educating and empowering teams, ensuring our people are equipped to navigate change with confidence.

This position will be posed from 07/24/2025 – 08/07/2025.

What You Will Do:

  • Conduct in-depth evaluations of current payroll procedures to uncover strategic opportunities for automation, efficiency, and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reimagine payroll operations, driving improvements in accuracy, speed, and employee experience.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies using root cause analysis, and implement sustainable solutions that prevent recurrence.
  • Develop and maintain processes for integrating payroll activities related to acquisitions, ensuring seamless transitions, compliance, and minimal disruption to employees.
  • Implement and manage payroll audits to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Review company policies and payroll system configurations to ensure alignment with legal requirements and applicable union collective agreements.
  • Conduct comprehensive audits and maintain detailed documentation of payroll workflows to identify risks and implement controls that safeguard the organization.
  • Collaborate with IT to evaluate, test, and implement system enhancements that support compliance, scalability, and user-centric design.
  • Create and maintain dynamic training programs and standard operating procedures that empower team members, ensure consistency, and support business continuity.
  • Serve as liaison for internal and external audits, and coordinate with HR and other partners to ensure alignment and transparency.
  • Deliver regular updates on payroll initiatives, and maintain KPI reporting that tracks performance, compliance, and strategic impact.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire the payroll team to adopt best practices, embrace innovation, and deliver exceptional service aligned with business priorities.
  • Facilitate regular performance and career development conversations, identifying growth opportunities and building a resilient, future-ready team.

What You Will Bring:

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in payroll operations and systems management.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire accountability, performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Advanced understanding of employment and wage/hour laws in both Canada and the United States.
  • Proven success in leading payroll teams and managing cross-border payroll operations.
  • Experience with SAP ECP, Workforce, and SuccessFactors.
  • Demonstrated success in leading payroll transformations or system implementations.
  • Strong influencing and leadership capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills preferred.
  • Track record of successful project execution and compliance oversight.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian and U.S. payroll tax regulations.
  • Strong project and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (intermediate to advanced).
  • Ability to interpret new tax laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Effective collaborator with cross-functional teams including HR, Finance, and IT.
  • High integrity and adherence to professional and ethical standards.
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
