The Project Excellence & Governance Manager reports directly to the Senior Manager, Capital Portfolio and is responsible for ensuring that the Potash Capital Portfolio consistently delivers its intended business value.

This role provides strategic leadership, governance, and coaching across the Potash Operating Segment by strengthening project management practices, aligning processes with Nutrien’s Stage-Gate framework, and enabling continuous improvement in capital project delivery. The position partners with Site Portfolio Managers, Project Controllers, and Project Managers to drive excellence, ensure effective oversight, and build organizational capability.

 

This position is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada and is not available for remote work.

 

Salary and title will be based on the level of education and experience of the candidate.

 

What you will do:

  • Provide leadership, governance, and control to ensure efficient and sustainable implementation of all capital projects within the Potash portfolio.
  • Drive standardization and continuous improvement of Nutrien’s capital processes across Potash sites through rigorous reviews of funding requests, Stage-Gate deliverables, and alignment with Nutrien’s project management framework.
  • Resolve escalated issues and remove obstacles raised by Site Portfolio Managers, Project Controllers, and Project Managers.
  • Consolidate project materials and prepare presentations for Senior Leadership, Nutrien President(s), and the Board of Directors.
  • Support the Potash capital PMO in defining strategic objectives, developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and tracking performance to ensure effective use of capital.
  • Provide input during project initiation to ensure appropriate stakeholder engagement and technical reviews.
  • Deliver clear insights and reporting to senior stakeholders, positioning the portfolio to achieve business value and long-term strategic goals.
  • Mentor, coach, and train Project Managers, including assessment of competencies, facilitation of front-end project development, and delivery of project management training.
  • Guide Site Portfolio Managers and Project Controllers across six key areas: Leadership, Stage-Gated Project Management, Training & Skills Development, Project Analytics, Risk Management, and Cost Optimization.
  • Engage, motivate, and inspire teams across the Potash Operating Segment to embrace change and continuously improve capital strategies, governance practices, and project management procedures.

 

What you will bring:

  • Minimum 5 years of related technical and/or managerial experience in mining, mineral processing, or a comparable industrial sector (additional experience considered an asset).
  • Proven track record in managing projects within an industrial facility.
  • One of the following educational or professional backgrounds:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university (P.Eng designation considered an asset).
    • Diploma in Engineering Technology, or equivalent, from a recognized institution.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) designation is considered an asset.
  • Highly motivated leader with demonstrated ability to coach and develop people to maintain the highest levels of expertise and performance.
  • Ability to succeed in a dynamic environment with minimal supervision, while fostering collaboration across management teams, sites, and departments.
  • Strong facilitation skills with experience delivering project management training.
