Projects & Standards Manager
The Projects & Standards Manager reports directly to the Senior Manager, Capital Portfolio and is responsible for ensuring the Potash Capital Portfolio achieves its expected business value.
This role will require providing leadership and coaching with respect to project management expertise to resources within other departments, plant sites, and corporate office. This main function will provide guidance, professional knowledge, and expertise to Portfolio Managers at our Potash Sites, Project Controllers, and Project Managers. The role will also include the review of Stage Gates in alignment with Nutrien’s Stage-Gate Project Management Process. These reviews will support efficient and effective project management by supporting the appropriate level of Front-End Loading (engineering), the estimate class development, and coordinating the involvement of technical experts and senior management to maximize value. Other important aspects of the position involve improvement of Nutrien’s project management tool set, completing gap assessments for skills and knowledge, and providing training for project managers.
This position is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada and is not available for remote work.
Salary and title will be based on the level of education and experience of the candidate.
What you will do:
- Provide the leadership, direction, governance, and control necessary to support the sustainable, efficient implementation of all capital projects within the potash portfolio
- Support standardization and continuous improvement of Nutrien’s Capital Processes across all Potash sites and within the Potash Engineering, Technology, and Capital (ETC) department through a thorough review of all required funding requests and deliverable reviews.
- Create capital project reports and presentations for review by Senior Leadership, Nutrient President(s), and the Potash Leadership Team
- Provide guidance, professional knowledge, and expertise to Site Portfolio Managers and Project Controllers on a regular basis in six key areas: Leadership, Stage-Gated Project Management, Training & Skills Development, Project Analytics, Risk Management, and Cost Savings
- Be responsible for mentorship, support, and training of Project Managers, including assessment of competencies and coordination of the Nutrien Project Management processes across the Potash Business Unit. Additionally, be available to provide onsite support for front-end project development support training as required.
- Support the Potash capital PMO in the creation of strategic objectives, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for efficient and effective use of capital
- Accept responsibility to resolve issues and remove obstacles that are escalated by the Site Portfolio Managers, Project Controllers, and Project Managers
- Provide input and guidance at the onset of a project regarding the identification of potential stakeholders and required technical reviews
- Prepare consolidated project slides for the Potash business unit for the annual capital presentation to the Board of Directors
- Engage, motivate, and inspire the Site Portfolio Managers, Project Controllers, and Project Managers to embrace change and support the continuous improvement of the Corporation’s capital strategies and aligned project management procedures to assure project success
What you will bring:
- Demonstrated track record of 5 years of related technical and/or managerial experience in mining, mineral processing, or similar industrial companies, with additional experience considered an asset
- A solid track record of managing projects and/or portfolios within an industrial facility
- One of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university
- P.Eng Designation considered an asset
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from a recognized institution
- CPA or CMA is considered an asset
- Diploma in Engineering Technology, or equivalent, from a recognized institution
- PMP (Project Management Professional) Designation is considered an asset
- Must be highly motivated, and requires the ability to lead/coach people to maintain the highest levels of expertise and performance
- Ability to work successfully in an environment with minimal supervision and a high degree of interaction between management, teams, and people
- Comfortable and competent with facilitating project management training
