Rail Contracts Manager

Reports to the Director, Rail Contract Management.

 

What you will do:
 

  • Lead and support contract negotiations with railroads, short lines, and storage track providers to secure favorable terms, rates, and service levels. Employ strong negotiation skills to achieve mutually beneficial agreements while maintaining positive relationships with external partners.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to define contract strategy objectives that align with business goals. Utilize industry knowledge and insights to create comprehensive contract strategies that address transportation needs, cost optimization, and service level expectations.
  • Oversee the execution and management of rail contracts, ensuring that terms and conditions are accurately implemented and monitored for compliance. Collaborate with legal, finance, and operational teams to ensure seamless contract execution.
  • Monitor contract compliance and proactively address any deviations or issues that arise.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with rail carriers, short lines, and storage track & rail service providers. Act as a liaison between the company and external partners to ensure open communication and alignment on contract terms and performance expectations.
  • Monthly Review of Expiring Rate Agreements (Contacts and Tariffs) for all products shipped by rail.
  • Assist in long-term contract renewal strategy development.
  • Negotiate Individual Rates and short-term Rate Agreements with respective railroads.
  • Provide analysis support as needed by the Director Rail Contract Management as well as the Senior Director, Transportation Rail on long term agreements and Executive presentations.
  • Building and Fostering Relationships with Internal and External Customers.
  • Develop Ad-Hoc Rate and Spend analysis reporting as required.

 

What you will bring:
 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience with significant skills in contract negotiation, preferably within the rail transportation industry.
  • Strong experience in commercial rail negotiations, as well as rail operations and the regulatory framework.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and SMEs.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in contract management software and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and experience dealing with both internal and external clients at varying organization levels.
  • Self-starter able to work with minimal supervision and work under deadline pressure.
  • Some travel will be required.
