Reporting to the SVP, Tax & Treasurer, the Senior Director, Global Tax Planning, International Tax & Indirect Tax, leads Nutrien’s global tax planning and indirect tax functions. The role oversees the delivery of tax planning and indirect tax services, supporting both day-to-day operations and ongoing simplification initiatives.

The position provides strategic leadership on tax planning and indirect tax matters to support business decision-making, value creation, and free cash flow enhancement. The Senior Director leads a global team of over 20 tax professionals including 2 direct reports, with responsibility for their technical capability, professional development, and career progression. In addition, the role manages relationships with external tax advisors, ensuring timely, practical advice and effective governance of the related consulting budget.

What You'll Do:
Â
- Lead strategic tax planning, tax risk management, technology adoption, team performance and development, and global service partner relationships that support Nutrien’s business interests
- Standardize and maintain governance, processes, controls, and methodologies applied to tax planning and indirect taxes across the global organization
- Lead Nutrien’s response to new direct and indirect tax legislation and initiatives by partnering across global functions and identifying key risks and opportunities to the business
- Develop and implement global tax planning strategies, ensuring consistent tax risk management through partnership with internal and external resources
- Lead the tax workstream for M&A initiatives and other strategic transactions in partnership with Corporate Development
- Ensure the overall effectiveness of the tax planning and indirect tax advisory team globally
- Set performance expectations for the Global Tax Planning and Indirect Tax organization and be accountable for results in building a best-in-class tax function
- Provide people leadership, coaching, mentoring, and sponsorship to a high-performing team of tax professionals (including direct reports) to develop strengths and build capability
What You'll Bring:
Â
- Hold degree qualifications in Commerce and/or Accounting, with postgraduate accounting and/or CA/CPA, and a minimum of twenty years of progressive tax experience with a global organization or a Big 4 public accounting firm
- Minimum 15 years of related experience; having served at least 5 in a managerial position.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of Canadian international taxation, and a good overall understanding of direct and indirect tax in the U.S., Canada, and other countries (e.g., Australia, Brazil) - Collaborate with and influence decision-makers across a global matrixed organization
- Operate effectively in a complex environment across different geographies, countries, and cultures
- Communicate strategy, plans, and issues clearly across the organization
- Lead and inspire others by engaging the workforce and developing people to their greatest potential
- Interact with various levels of management in a multitasking, deadline-oriented team environment
