The Automation & Monitoring Specialist will play a key role in strengthening and maturing our IT Operations Center, specifically the enterprise automation, monitoring, and observability capabilities. You will help set the direction for these services, up to and including AI, to build new capabilities from the ground up, and drive adoption across infrastructure, security, and application teams. Working with a blended team of contractors, service providers, and embedded champions, you’ll help deliver reliable, standardized services that reduce manual effort, improve signal quality, and strengthen operational performance. This role combines hands‑on technical leadership with the ability to influence others and build momentum behind a modern, forward‑looking approach that will shape how technology is supported at Nutrien.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop and maintain the roadmap for automation, monitoring, and observability, defining the target state, operating model, and standards for these services
  • Build and evolve the platforms that support automation, telemetry, alerting, and workflow orchestration, ensuring tools and integrations are reliable and consistent across the organization
  • Lead the intake and prioritization process using structured scoring and a transparent backlog to ensure focus on the highest‑value work
  • Establish development standards and guardrails for scripting, orchestration, CI/CD, testing, documentation, and operational compliance
  • Improve the quality of telemetry and observability data, streamline dashboards and alerts, and strengthen proactive detection and resilience
  • Leverage AI to modernize observability practices and enable more responsive, intelligent service behavior across IT
  • Integrate automation into ITSM workflows and eliminate manual, repeatable tasks to improve service reliability and response times
  • Collaborate with technical teams to identify processes suitable for AI‑assisted automation, define desired workflows and outcomes, and translate them into clear technical requirements and documentation for development teams
  • Apply emerging AI capabilities to reduce noise, improve triage, and expand opportunities for auto‑remediation
  • Identify and drive incident automation opportunities using AI, improving how events become actionable incidents, accelerating triage, enabling automated enrichment, and streamlining remediation paths
  • Provide hands‑on support for complex builds and integrations, helping raise the technical bar across contractor and partner teams
  • Coordinate delivery across contractors, partners, and embedded team champions, ensuring dependencies are managed across infrastructure, security, and application groups
  • Work closely with the IT Operations Center and other IT service teams to understand demand, identify pain points, and develop automated and AI‑driven ways of working to improve efficiency, consistency, and scale
  • Keep stakeholders informed through clear communication of roadmaps, priorities, risks, and progress, supported by meaningful metrics
  • Ensure documentation and operating practices are accurate, easy to follow, and aligned with future‑state design
  • Act as the primary point of contact for automation, monitoring, and observability service areas, helping teams understand capabilities and upcoming improvements

What You'll Bring:

  • Experience leading automation, monitoring, or observability initiatives within IT Operations, including end‑to‑end delivery and service evolution
  • Strong hands‑on skills with scripting and automation tools such as PowerShell, Python, Ansible, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Splunk, or Elastic
  • Ability to translate operational needs into clear requirements, documentation, and an actionable backlog
  • Experience structuring and governing intake, prioritization, and delivery using Agile or Kanban practices
  • Ability to guide contractors, manage partner delivery, and influence embedded champions in infrastructure, security, and application teams
  • Familiarity with ITSM platforms such as ServiceNow and integrating automation or observability into operational workflows
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts in a business‑focused way
  • A self‑starter mindset with strong problem‑solving skills and a practical understanding of how AI can enhance operational performance
  • A solid understanding of infrastructure, cloud, and operational technologies and how they underpin automation and observability practices
