Nutrien’s IT department has created a dedicated team of experts to deliver emerging technology targeted at increasing safety, reliability, and efficiency in our Nitrogen (N), Phosphate (P), and Potash (K) operations! Working in partnership with our NPK Operations and our centralized groups, we are striving to make impactful and lasting change for our company for years to come! To support our ambitious goals the Senior Specialist will join a group of advanced technology and analytics experts in IT. This team is bringing together the best of IT (Information Technology) into the OT (Operational Technology) space leveraging data science, ML, AI, IIoT, Computer Vision, and other innovative ideas focused on increasing our operations safety, reliability, and efficiency.
 
Reporting to the Manager, Converged Technology, the Senior Specialist will work hand in hand with our sites, the broader IT team, and a large range of Nutrien subject matter experts to develop and/or manage a variety of high priority projects requiring their specific expertise. Working in a structured Agile environment, leveraging our best practices and policies they will identify and add their expertise to tackle complex and non-routine business problems based on business priorities resulting in sustainable change to the way we operate! 

 

What you will do:  
 
•    Lead the development of hardware and software solutions for IT and enterprise OT deployment to support NPK site operations while mentoring and assisting more junior resources in the same exercise
•    Supervise and manage students, interns, and contract resources in their day-to-day tasks
•    Mentor junior resources on solution ideation, planning, and development
•    Acquire knowledge of the Nitrogen, Phosphate, and Potash business to enable understanding of where data analytics and advanced technologies can help us improve our operations and safety
•    Acquire and maintain a strong working knowledge of existing systems utilized within the operations with which they are working
•    Utilize established best practices and standards developed by our central IT teams to find or build solutions to support our operations
•    Identify, research, and promote business value from new areas of technology for exploration based on business needs and work with central IT teams to align those areas within our standards
•    Innovate robust solution designs utilizing a variety of proven methodologies including agile and algorithmic approaches
•    Streamline in-place solutions to increase supportability and ensure reliability and value delivery for our operations
•    Develop digital solutions for visualization, navigation, and automation of operating equipment working with key groups and standards to operationalize those solutions
•    Create, modify, integrate, test, and sustain solutions deployed in our technology stack using sensor integration, computer vision or numerous other data science techniques
•    Develop test and support procedures for hardware and software systems
•    Maintain a working understanding of process control systems including, for example, products from Emerson and Rockwell (PLCs, HMIs, etc.)
•    Utilize software solutions and integrations with other enterprise systems including but not exclusive to the following: AWS architecture, AWS services (including Redshift), Python, C++ and ROS 
•    Be primarily based in Nutrien’s Saskatoon office with potential to work for short periods of time at our operations throughout North America (based on the project)

 
What you will bring:  
 
•    6+ years of combined experience working with (I)IoT, integrations, computer vision, data analytics or robotic / remote control systems (preferably in a mining or industrial environment)
•    2 years of experience working in operational control systems with a good understanding of networking and cyber security concerns as it relates to the topic
•    5 years of experience of managing projects and project teams
•    Minimum 2 Year Technical Diploma/Degree with significant experience. Higher level education (Bachelors, Masters, or PhD) is an asset but not required
•    Strong verbal and electronic communication skills – The Senior Specialist will be in constant contact with internal employees, and at times contractors and vendors, and require these skills to provide prompt, effective service
•    Problem Solving skills – Excellent hardware/software troubleshooting skills relating to computer and data science
•    Experience in developing and end to end hardware and software solutions 
•    The ability to work efficiently on their own, or as a member of a group
•    Valid driver’s license
