What you will do:

  • Contribute to the timely completion of doubled haploid projects through microspore extractions, embryo plating, subculture/plantlet transfers, ploidy analysis, and doubled haploid plantlet planting.
  • Document recalcitrant genotypes and record any adjustments in the protocol used to achieve embryogenesis.
  • Coordinate marker screening of doubled haploid plantlets with the molecular team.
  • Adhere to quality assurance processes and standard operating procedures to ensure the gene purity of all double haploid derived genotypes.
  • Accurately label and select donor plants, tissue culture material, and doubled haploid plantlets.
  • Complete data collection according to established procedures.
  • Assist with experiments and maintain, organize, and summarize experimental results.
  • Actively contribute to team activities such as media preparation, equipment maintenance, lab housekeeping, and protocol improvement efforts.
  • As requested, provide support in green house, field, pathology, and molecular lab work activities.
  • Model our core value of safety by always utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safety protocols.
  • Embrace a safety-mindset, committing to safe work practices through Key Daily Actions.
  • Demonstrate willingness and enthusiasm to complete additional tasks to meet business objectives.

 

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Biology, or related field is required. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • An engaged safety-first mindset.
  • Accountability to team with dependable attendance and completion of assigned workload.
  • Attention to detail when completing data tracking activities.
  • Follow through on assigned tasks from start to finish.
  • Apply critical thinking in problem solving scenarios.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time as well as bend and reach on a regular basis.
  • Routine operation of Laminar flow hoods, autoclaves, and ploidy analyzers.
  • Previous work experience plant breeding, doubled haploid methodology, or molecular breeding is an asset.
