Reporting to the Director of Agronomy, this position is responsible for providing an expert relationship between agronomic technical support staff and the Nutrien downstream wholesale sales organization, other Nutrien team members, university contacts, and regional government/nonprofit entities across a dedicated territory (Midwest USA). Early career or newly graduated candidates (<5-10 years of experience and degree type) will be hired on initially as an agronomist and placed into a defined training program to become a Senior Agronomist after a trial period and satisfactory progression. Mid to late career candidates (>10 years of experience) will be hired on as a Senior Agronomist upon satisfactory review of qualifications.

What You'll Do:

 

  • Possess a solid foundation in soil science and agronomic principles governing fertilizer use and nutrient management for the commodity and forage crops, specialty annual crops, and permanent crops important to the territory
  • Provide expert knowledge of crop and soil requirements to help recognize the opportunity to bring in select products from the Nutrien fertilizer portfolio and support the 4R stewardship program and other Nutrien sustainability initiatives
  • Keep careful records, across a variety of media platforms (eg, photos, spreadsheets, presentation software, written articles, etc) to document the impact of best nutrient management practices on yield, profitability, and other sustainable outcomes
  • Stay up to date on current soil fertility and agronomic research and key issues by attending and speaking at regional meetings
  • Serve as an expert media representative across regional print, public speaking with presentations, video, and podcast resources
  • Serve as an expert resource to forge goodwill between universities, state crop associations, regulatory organizations, fertilizer associations, NGOs, and government offices on important regional matters

What You'll Bring:

 

  • MS minimum: PhD preferred
  • Degree(s) in Soil Fertility and Nutrient Management or closely related field(s)
  • Agronomic consulting experience in fertilizer and nutrient management required, MS, 5-10 yrs experience is needed If candidate is a PhD or PostDoc, 2-5 yrs experience in university, extension, ag retail, crop organizations, and government is needed
  • Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) and/or Certified Professional Agronomist (CPAg), Other Agronomy Certifications, or the ability to obtain credentials shortly after hire
  • Experience in customer relations, experience with spreadsheets, presentation software, and word processing software, experience with data analytics and statistics 
  • Excellent public speaking, data presentation, and writing ability to serve as the public facing technical resource for the region
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs., perform field work, and travel via vehicle and airplane
  • Ability to travel throughout territory on a regular basis; speak at regional events; and attend important territory conferences, government meetings, and tradeshows as necessary (monthly travel 30-60%, depending on the season)

 

Compensation & Benefits: 

 

The salary range for this role, in Minnesota and Illinois, is between $95,500 - $149,930. While we provide this range as general guidance, several factors are taken into consideration when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, candidate skill set, experience and training, licensure and certifications, work location, and other business and organizational needs. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee.  Details will be discussed through the application process.
