Reporting to the SVP, Proprietary Products and Category Management, this people leader role is responsible for building and leading a high-performing, centralized agronomy function that synthesizes and leverages agronomic knowledge, commercial acumen, and solutions-driven tools to deliver exceptional integrated service and support to Downstream leadership, crop consultants, growers and wholesalers. The position leads and fosters trusted partnerships across the North American Downstream sales network, Innovation Farm, Precision Agriculture, and Plant & Soil Health teams to strengthen collaboration, to enhance information sharing, and to ensure consistent service delivery. This role is highly accountable for driving the adoption of a unified agronomic approach, consistent agronomic insight, delivering innovative solutions, advancing a fully integrated customer experience, and supporting strategic, multi-faceted business objectives.  

 

What You'll Do:

 

  • Develop and lead Nutrien’s enterprise agronomy strategy for the North American Downstream network
  • Assess and oversee utilization of third-party agronomic related contracts, tools, and resources to maximize return on investment and eliminate redundancy
  • Foster effective business partnerships, ensuring vertical and horizontal alignment across Downstream, to achieve targeted business outcomes
  • Drive value added services, keeping voice of customer top of mind in providing integrated data and science-based solutions
  • Partner closely with Wholesale leadership to formulate and execute strategies that fully promote benefits of commodity fertilizer products
  • Lead and champion change management, within assigned areas of responsibility, to achieve alignment, drive growth and enhance Downstream performance in-line with enterprise strategy
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team through effective coaching, mentoring, and performance management
  • Promote activities to drive employee engagement and foster a culture of leaders who advance Nutrien’s core values
  • Aid leaders in identifying and managing organizational risk, supporting compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies
  • Promote ethical decision-making and sound business practices in all engagements
  • Lead budget planning and financial accountability across reporting teams

  • Demonstrate a formidable willingness to complete additional responsibility to achieve business objectives

 

What You'll Bring:

 

  • Master’s degree in Agronomy, Applied Plant Science, Bio agricultural Science or related field is required
  • Ph.D. in Agronomy or Plant and Soil Science is preferred
  • 15 years of progressive experience in the agriculture industry with 10 years of previous leadership experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to travel 30% to 50%
  • Valid driver’s license is required
  • Expertise in the field of agronomy and precision agriculture to promote science-based decision making
  • Strong competency in commercial agriculture economics to enhance productivity and profitability
  • Proven understanding of technology readiness to standardize systems, improve data quality and accessibility, and appropriately automate workflows
  • Acute understanding of the interaction between people, processes, technology, and organizational structures, making effective decisions based on competing matters of significant complexity
  • Adept at driving accountability, execution, and achievement of productive outcomes during periods of ambiguity
  • Proficient in centralizing activities with a balanced approach to adding long term value with high consideration for eliminating redundancy
  • Skilled in effective change management methodologies, navigating barriers to achieve widespread adoption
  • Demonstrated efficacy in improving operating segment visibility and adoption across the organization
  • Expertise in gaining cross-functional support to further service quality, delivery, stakeholder satisfaction, and business productivity, including influencing without authority
  • Proven ability to manage fragmented systems, minimizing business disruption while building increasing stakeholder support and enthusiasm for change
  • Strategic agility in adapting plans to proactively address emerging challenges and evolving business needs

Compensation & Benefits: 

 

The estimated salary that Indeed, Glassdoor and LinkedIn suggested does not represent Nutrien's compensation structure.   

 

The salary range for this role in Deerfield, IL, is between $169,100 - $265,650.While we provide this range as general guidance, several factors are taken into consideration when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, candidate skill set, experience and training, licensure and certifications, work location, and other business and organizational needs. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.

 

We provide an attractive benefits package that includes comprehensive medical, dental, vision coverage, and life insurance and well as disability coverage for positions working more than 30 hours per week. In addition, we have a retirement program that encourages our employees to save for the longer term, with generous matching employer contributions.  Our benefit package also demonstrates our culture of care with paid vacation, sick days and holidays as well as paid personal and maternity/parental leaves and an Employee and Family Assistance Program.  Details of the benefits package will be shared in the application process.  

 

In addition to base pay, this role is also eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan and long-term incentive plan, consistent with the terms of our program(s) where discretionary pay out of awards is reflecting components such as performance of the company and the employee. Details will be discussed through the application process.
